The more things change …
I’m away for three weeks and return to expect dramatic changes only to find:
Maybe I should just go back on vacation.
- Despite the early turnover of sovereignty and Iraqi progress in providing security, terrorists in Iraq are still referred to as "insurgents", coalition forces are still "occupiers", the country as a whole is a described as a "chaotic mess" and the entire operation a "failure".
- Despite taking on a pretty-boy running mate, Kerry continues to elicit recollections of Lurch both in visage as well as excitement. If SNL ever wanted to revive the "Tonto-Tarzan-Frankenstein" bit, I know whom they can get to replace Phil Hartman. GRRRRRRRR
- Despite factual errors that would rival the best fantasies of Jon Lovitz’ Tommy Flanagan character (am I on an SNL bent or something?) and gaps in logic that make the last two Star Wars movies seem a doctoral thesis on the applicability of The Prince to intergalactic politics, Fahrenheit 911 is still being trumpeted as a significant work and meaningful criticism of Bush by all the normal assortment of soft-headed and like-minded individuals.
- Despite serious matters that could quite literally have significant impact to the national security, when dealing with admitted wrong-doings by a crony of the media’s darling, Bill Clinton, the same media chooses to emphasize supposed "Republican dirty tricks" and "timing" at the expense of actually trying to find out what happened.
Maybe I should just go back on vacation.
